Each Year , area schools give awards to great teachers. On Tuesday May 14th, Bedford County Schools awarded their Teacher of the Year Award. Gathering at Boonsboro Country Club, the three finalist were given gift certificates and prizes from area business.

2013 Bedford County Teach of the Year Award Goes To:

Kathy Barton of Thaxton Elementary!

“I just love working with the children and making sure that they’re inspired to be able to have a better chance in life. You know, education is what has been a great way for me to have a good life and I want them to do the same thing,” said Barton. She now has the recognition and a trophy as part of her reward.

Historic Cars Tour the Blue Ridge Parkway

This week about 200 Model A Fords are traveling the Blue Ridge Parkway from Charlottesville to Gatlinburg. These historic cars are from around the nation and have been making stops all along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

The idea for the drive is rumored to have orginaeted from a car club in Dallas. Car owners drove in from around the country. Many of these cars are from Indiana and Wisconsin.

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a perfect setting for this type of drive. Among the wonderful vistas and scenic overlooks there are many great historical places you can stop.
